Northern Territory Correctional Services, in partnership with the community, is committed to delivering a correctional service that contributes to individual and community safety by:

  • Ensuring the effective management of prisoners and juvenile detainees during their period of imprisonment or detention and support the reduction of the likelihood of their re-offending through the provision of effective rehabilitation and reintegration programs and services
  • Ensuring the provision of assessment, monitoring and supervision services to community based adult and juvenile offenders in line with orders as directed by the courts and the parole board
  • Ensuring that a range of rehabilitation and reparation programs are available to sentenced prisoners and community based offenders which encourage them to become socially responsible members of the community; and
  • Developing, managing and operating systems that are effective in achieving their objectives, competitive in performance and cost, responsive to changing needs and accountable for results.

 

'BEHIND THE WIRE' Art Exhibition 2008

'Behind the Wire' Annual Prisoner Art Exhibition 2008 is on from Thursday, 21 August to Sunday, 7 September 2008. It is open daily from 10am-4pm at the Fannie Bay Gaol.

The exhibition is a showcase of Darwin Correctional Centre art students work. All artwork is anonymous.

The exhibition will showcase traditional Aboriginal painting, modern and abstract painting, drawing, Shibori (Japanese tie dye) dyed textiles with stencil printing, silk painting, ceramics, sculpture, design and painting of CD cases, and painting on story poles to create a large wind chime effect.

Some artwork is for sale, with proceeds going to Victims of Crime.
