Community Corrections

Community Corrections comprises a total of 50 full time staff, of which 45 are Probation and Parole Officers and 5 provide administrative support. There is a General Manager of Community Corrections and one Assistant Director responsible for overseeing operations in the Northern Territory .

Community Corrections has 10 offices located as follows:

Northern Region

Casuarina
Palmerston
Darwin Magistrates' Court
Groote Eylandt
Bathurst Island
Nhulunbuy
Wadeye

Southern Region

Katherine
Tennant Creek
Alice Springs

In addition, Aboriginal Community Corrections Officers (ACCOs) based at Lajamanu and Yuendumu provide supervision of clients resident in those communities.

Community Corrections employs a number of casual Home Detention Surveillance Officers on communities throughout the Northern Territory to provide random surveillance of offenders paced on Home Detention. On call Probation Officers provide back up support in the event of detected non compliance.

Community Corrections is also responsible for the training and monitoring of Community Work Order supervisors. These people provide the on site, day to day supervision of offenders completing community work orders and are employees of, or volunteers with, community organisations approved as work projects.

Community Corrections also provides administrative support and secretariat services to a number of statutory Boards and Committees, including:

  • The Parole Board of the Northern Territory ;
  • Youth Justice Advisory Committee; and
  • Community Work Advisory Committees (based in Alice Springs , Katherine and Darwin ).

Community Corrections administers the following programs Territory wide:

Community Corrections officers attend urban and circuit courts to provide any assessments, reports or advice which may be requested in relation to clients or programs of the service.
