Credit and Debt

If you buy goods, services or land now and pay a charge for them later, then you are being provided with credit.
If you pay a business by credit and use the goods mainly for personal, household or domestic purposes, the Consumer Credit Code governs your transactions.
The Consumer Credit Code governs all transactions taking place in Australia, including personal loans, credit cards, housing loans and mortgages.
Consumer Affairs does not provide financial counselling, but can assist with complaints about dealings with credit providers (such as banks, credit unions and finance companies) that are governed by the Code.
For general advice about credit and debt you can access the following fact sheets which may be of assistance to you.
