Ensuring Accurate Measure

Ever since humans began to trade with their neighbours, measurements have been necessary.
Today's measuring equipment utilises advanced technology, as measurements are required to increasingly higher degrees of accuracy.
The Trade Measurement unit within Consumer and Business Affairs is responsible for ensuring there is an accurate measurement in trade throughout the Northern Territory, in accordance with the Trade Measurement Act 1990
Trade measurement officers monitor the accuracy of weights and measures used by Territory businesses to ensure consumers receive correct weights and measures for purchases such as fruit and vegetables, pre-packed food and volumes for fuel and liquor.
This program is to ensure consumers are not being shortchanged or ripped off.
Trade Measurement has an agreement with the Department of the Environment and Heritage to undertake sampling of fuel in the Northern Territory, to ensure that fuel being supplied to motorists complies with the Australian Fuel Standard.
This ensures cleaner air for all Australians.
The following information and fact sheets provides information on trade measurement requirements for pre-packed articles and tips on how the consumers can help ensure you receive accurate measurements.
